During this time, I would use my meal times to watch a documentary called Roof Of The World The Chinese name of the documentary is "第三极“, which directly translates to ”The Third Pole“.

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is known as the "third pole" on earth and is the only polar region with abundant human activities compared to the Antarctic and the Arctic. The film uses the geographical concept of the "Third Pole" to tell the story of man and nature living in harmony on the Tibetan Plateau.

For me, this documentary is corresponding to my project theme. The Tibetan region has an outstanding Buddhist culture and this documentary will show me the profound influence of Buddhism on the Tibetan people while documenting some of their habits, which inspired me a lot.

For instance, this episode also follows the making of a sand painting Mandala at the monastery during the Saga Dawa Festival. The story of how the lamas meticulously make the sand, dye it, paint the Mandala and finally destroy the magnificent Mandala and turn it back into the sand.

What surprised me is that these exquisite and beautiful Mandala were not made by any artist, craftsman, or designer, these were made by monks who religious practices every day.

As the monks let go of the materialistic attachment in their hearts and changed their altars from sand back to the sand, I thought I could also using my work to deal with the process of transformation and experiment.
